weekend update

We've had a fun and friend filled weekend around here!  I'll show pics in chronological order...

Thursday night (which I know is not the weekend...) I was greeted with a beautiful sunset on my evening run...the pre run view was even better, but this was my post run stretch, out on the dock.  I really love The Cities...

And Friday, I was treated to Dave and Owen joining me at work!  Dave's car was in the shop in a very far southern suburb, and I work in an inner ring southern suburb, so instead of driving all the way back home, just to drive double the distance south again to get his car, they joined me at work for a couple hours and we carried on our errant...I mean errand way.  But while we were there, Owen and I headed to the Japanese Garden on campus to look at the koi, and have a little lunch while Dave had a quick skype meeting.
"here fishy, fishy, fishy!"

hmmm...this looks interesting...

babies love sunscreen.
And Friday night, we headed to Aaron and Allison's to hang out and have some dinner and enjoy the lovely weather!
MJ = excellent human baby gate

Owen and Sonia were enjoying all the fridge magnets!

Sonia: "psst...Baby O, what is MJ doing??"

By the time you are old enough to enjoy all this attention
from the ladies,  it probably won't be quite so forthcoming...

Saturday Owen woke up with some wicked bedhead!
bedhead must be genetic from the father's side...if you  could see
Dave in this pic, you would see that they have exactly matching "owl horns"

"ummm...Mom?  There's a bear behind me."

"got your eye!"

And this morning, we got up and went out for breakfast (for the first time in 9 months!!!) and sat outside enjoying the sunshine and food and then went for a big walk through just a small portion of the giant cemetery nearby...the fall colours were amazing as the maples are turning!!
as you can see, it was very bright out!

slept through the night!

Last night was a first...Owen slept through the night!!!  He had a long day yesterday full of lots of play at day care, had a nice big dinner and bottle and then set a land speed record for falling asleep...I think he was out within about 30 seconds of me putting him in his crib! That being said, he is usually sound asleep within 5 min of being placed in his crib...we lucked out with an excellent "going-to-sleep" sleeper, but up until last night we were still up 1-2 times per night with him for a quick feeding, then immediately back to sleep. But last night, he went down at 6:30pm and didn't make even a peep until 6 this morning (when he took a bottle and promptly fell asleep until 7:30)!!  Which of course meant I woke up at 3am worried about him and then spent the next 3 hours in and out of sleep worrying that something was wrong and convincing myself that nothing was wrong and if I checked on him I would just wake him up.  So, to alleviate my fears, I of course woke Dave up to reassure me...he was not so happy about this but did have a solution - turn the monitor on and turn the volume up - I love that the microphones are so sensitive on those things that we could hear Owen breathing!!  Here's hoping for another excellent night of sleep!!

And now for some photos!!  A little backyard hanging out (last pumpkin from our garden for scale)!

Owen loves to practice standing

"gimme that pumpkin!"

Dribble is also a bit of a camera ham

"Enough with the kisses already Mom!"

sponsored

Turns out when your last name is an animal, themed clothing is a given!

crawling has opened up a whole new world of toys!  Now Owen beelines to the toy boxes in his room and dumps them over to get at the little wooden cars.
hmm...doesn't fit through there...

but it sure fits in there!

watching cars, bikes, buses, dogs, squirrels, etc go by from his vantage point standing on the couch is a favourite pastime!

and just because it is so colourful...Owen's selection of frozen food - carrots, sweet potato, peas, zucchini, peaches!

and because it was colourful and delicious, Dave and I's dinner the other night of pumpkin (from the garden) and roasted red pepper soup with a lime tomatillo drizzle and some queso fresco with a couple slices of sourdough.  YUM!!!

Big Weekend

We have had a big week and weekend!  Owen has successfully battled and won against his cold and subsequent pink eye.  We also had some Friday evening time hanging out with friends and then Sunday was our first swim lesson followed by MJ's 3rd birthday party.  Lots of excitement!
Now that Greta is here, Owen is no longer the littlest baby on the block!

MJ's doll was very exciting!

Playing doctor already?!?!

Get that octopus!!

Owen loved the pool!

Nice form on your back float...very stylish with the crossed legs!

And I knew it would be soon, I just didn't realize how soon!  Owen is crawling!!  He strung together 3 "steps" on Friday for the first time, and by today, 3 days later, he has quickly progressed and moves with clear intent to his object of choice (most often me!  :)  and whatever he can get his hands on under the coffee table)!

update

With the start of work again I've been a bit lacking in blogging time.  So I'll have to squeeze 2 weeks worth of stuff into this one!

Over Labour Day long weekend, my brother Scott and his daughter Anna came for a visit.  We had a bit of state fair time, a trip to the wading pool, the lake, some backyard sprinkler action, and a couple trips to the park.  The weather was great, and we had a fabulous weekend despite Owen battling his first daycare induced cold.
wading pool fun

Scott and Anna chasing ducks!

Anna was insistent that the dolphin was hers...little did she know it was attached to the pool...

sprinkler!!!
The following weekend (just this past weekend) was the annual Geology Dept Fall picnic.  So we headed off to that and enjoyed good food, friends, and lots of sunshine!

Sunday afternoon we had a little play date with Sonia and MJ.  MJ was busy on the fisher price phone calling Tor to see if he could come too!

We also had a little evening walk in what looked like imminent rain, so the yellow slicker made an appearance

And last, but definitely not least, as I'm sure you will hear more about this any day now, Owen is desperately trying to crawl!  He is very good at getting up on hands and knees, and occasionally even takes a "knee step" or two before doing a big sprawling reach to get at whatever he has his sights on!
I guess I better get those baby gates up...
