farmers market

O had to stop and take a little rest on a bench at the farmers market on Sunday.  It's tough work buying vegetables!

good start to fall

Twice over the past 2 weeks Owen has arrived home from daycare just exhausted from his hard day of playing and needing a cat nap before dinner.
this is the only time he naps on me anymore...it was kind of nice!

sacked out!

"Where's my truck?"
Leaving the park O insisted on wearing his backpack like a big boy...too bad the straps don't actually tighten small enough for his "big boy" frame.

perhaps it will stay on better on the front...

pantless low ridin'...where's that trucker hat...

Little boys and fences...

...are the greatest combination ever!

Our very old, falling apart, backyard fence blew down (does that give you a sense of how falling apart our fence was??) in the big storm  that came through here in June.  And fencing contractors have been back logged all summer rebuilding fences (I suppose that gives you a sense of just how big the storm was), so ours was finally installed last week!!  Which is a great thing given O's mobility. I was out weeding 2 weeks ago and turned my back for about 10 seconds, and O was off down the driveway pulling his toy puppy along behind him...he made it all the way to the neighbour's 2 doors down  without looking back (I was following him by this point to see how far he would go).  So, I'm happy our backyard now serves as toddler jail...he can't escape...yet.
looking mischevious

ah, that's why...plotting his forbidden move onto the table
boy, block, bus and fence = beautiful!

more fair

I left out a couple fair pics last time.  Owen also got to pet a mustang...he was very brave about it and went readily with the mustang's owner to pet her horse.

future equestrian?
And some from around the house...
rockin' out to some Journey...no joke.

Life on a stick

We headed to the state fair with O this morning...and he loved it.  He went on 3 rides at the kidway, ate his fair share of fried food - some on a stick, some not - and got to pet some bunnies...a solid morning.
He loved the rides, and for each and every one of them he started crying for more when they stopped...I suppose that's better than crying in fear through the entire ride.
"which way to the rides?"

choo-choo!

"what a second...there's glass here!?"

bunnies!
And last week for my birthday we had a little bbq at our house then headed out camping for a couple of nights.

very serious about his watermelon

you can see Dave lunging to save him from imminent tip over

happenings around here

Not much to report here, we've just been hanging out doing various things around the cities...here are some pics!
like a deer in the headlights

he actually sat and posed for this when I asked
if we should take a picture...such a ham!

all smiles!
teaching his puppy to fetch

We headed to the nearby rec center pool the other day...it wasn't exactly pool weather, poolside weather definitely, but the pool itself was a little chilly.  Owen didn't seem to mind though!

We headed over to the lake for a little running around and picnic dinner this evening.
"boats!"

The maiden voyage

Well, we did it.  We bought a pop up trailer...and it's awesome!!!  We found ourselves a used (1989 Palomino Colt) pop up on craigslist about 3 days after we returned from our epic journey, and took it out last week for its inaugural (at least for us) trip.  We headed to Father Hennepin State Park on Mille Lacs - about 1hr 45 min north of the cities - to test it out.
It was a new experience for us, not camping in a tiny backpacking tent, but kind of great!  We set up the pack 'n'play in one of the sleeping bays for O to sleep in.  Once he was down, we pulled the curtains closed  and had a comfortable table to sit at, to drink a beer, read and play games, tucked nicely behind our screened wall away from all the mosquitoes (and there were lots!!) to enjoy our evening...it's kind of like camping in a screened in porch!  Plus, we could totally spy on all our campground neighbours from behind our shaded screen walls without them seeing us.
here she be!

dance party!! see the pack'n'play in the background - perfect fit!

pop up within a pop up - very postmodern
And some other things we've been up to - they mostly involve gardening and beaching (of which I don't have any photos)
basil bus (bus is also O's favourite new word...although he pronounces it more like buh)

"Oh, a large pot?  don't mind if I do..."

very pleased with himself

we're working on the watering skillz still - turns out he has precision
(he made a great mud puddle in that one spot)
but no accuracy (water was meant for the garden...)

"please sir, may I have some more?"
